Training Program (TSTP)
A
Collaborative Program partnering A World Fit for Kids!,
EduCare Foundation, Echo Park Boys & Girls Club &
Direction / Belmont High School
A World Fit For Kids!
(AWFFK!) and EduCare Foundation have partnered with the Echo Park Boys
& Girls Club and Belmont High School’s Direction Program to
implement the Teen Success Training Program (TSTP). The Program empowers
teens to become successful students and positive contributors to the local
community. The Program is designed to:
Keep
high school youth actively engaged in positive activities after school
- Provide students
with job training, jobs, and a career path
- Encourage students
to graduate high school and consider post-secondary education
- Help students
make a difference in their own lives and the lives of others by becoming
after school mentors and positive role models to elementary school age
children
The Teen Success Training
Program is a comprehensive curriculum combining classroom instruction,
mentoring, job shadowing, and an internship. AWFFK! provides its Mentoring
& Activity Leadership training; EduCare Foundation its personal development,
conflict resolution instruction, family involvement, and “portfolio”
activities; and Echo Park Boys & Girls Club and Belmont High School’s
Direction Program their facilities, teen outreach, sports equipment, transportation,
etc.
The teenagers trained
in this pilot program are placed with local after school agencies to continue
their coaching and cross age mentoring experience as paid instructional
aides to neighborhood elementary school children.
